Follow each of the steps to help take the stress out of moving!

Moving House Checklist

ONE MONTH PRIOR TO MOVE

• Inform phone company of date to close account and arrange new reconnection at new home. Inform solicitator of new tel number.
• Contact removal companies and arrange quotes.
• Arrange meter readings and disconnection at your present address. Confirm takong over gas and electricity at the new address.
• Consider packing requirements. Check that your home/contents insurers are aware of your intended move and ensure that cover is continued, and they have new contact address.
• Redirect your email.

ONE WEEK PRIOR TO MOVE

• Confirm details with your removal company.
• Post change of address cards.
• Pay outstanding milk, paper and window cleaner bills etc.
• Organise packing.
• If you have pets, arrange for them to be looked after on the day.
• Locate water mains stop valve.

ONE DAY PRIOR TO THE MOVE

• All valuables and documents should be put away safely.
• Ensure you have cash/cheque book handy.
• Arrange for packing to be completed, keeping overnight essentials available.
• Have dust sheets at hand to protect carpets.
• Keep a supply of light bulbs and a telephone handset handy for use at new address.

ON THE DAY

• Supervise loading and instruct removal supervisor of any preferred order items may be required at new address.
• Ensure that nothing is left behind and that the property is left securely locked.
• Double check that the remover has new address in full and a contact phone number.
• Collect keys to new property and hand over your own keys.
